"Dropkick Me Jesus"; RU Ready For Some Football?

Oh happy day!

My season tickets for Rutgers football have arrived, same seats as last year, now going on 20 consecutive years first in the old stadium and in the new and improved version.

And to get in the spirit of game...and to give thanks....and because song can be considered prayer....here's a little offering from the 1970's that you may know from Bobby Bare.

"Dropkick Me Jesus Through The Goalposts of Life"

Hey....don't get mad at me, I didn't write it. Paul Craft, composer of "Midnight Flyer" (The Eagles ON THE BORDER) and "Keep Me From Blowing Away" (Linda Ronstadt's HEART LIKE A WHEEL) and many other songs over a career that has spanned four decades wrote the song which became a novelty hit for Bobby Bare in 1976.

Do ya wanna sing along?

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am
Make me a piece in your master game plan
Free from the earthly tempestion below
I’ve got the will, Lord if you’ve got the toe.

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Take all the brothers who’ve gone on before
And all of the sisters who’ve knocked on your door
All the departed dear loved ones of mine
Stick’em up front in the offensive line.

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Yeah, Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Lyrics from Bert Christensen's Truth and Humor Collection .
