On a field where the College Avenue Gymnasium now stands on the Rutgers University Campus in New Brunswick, NJ, college football was born on this date 140 years ago- it was November 6, 1869.
Rutgers beat Princeton 6-4 in front of about 100 spectators.
There were no highlights on the eleven o'clock news, of course. Probably the only account available came from the DAILY TARGUM, Rutgers' student newspaper
