Mallika Sherawat Cannes

Actress Mallika Sherawat will be walking the Cannes red carpet to promote her upcoming film today. She told DNA earlier that she will be dressed in a Shahab Durazi number and said she was eagerly awaiting this day. But she sprung a surprise as she turned up for the screening of the Johnny Depp-Penelope Cruz filmPirates of the Carribean on Saturday night.
A major chunk of international photographers present at the venue ended up confusing her for a Spanish actress and tagged her pictures as Stephanie Sigman. Her ‘daring’ look didn’t exactly earn her brownie points back home either.
Designer Ana Singh thinks the outfit hadn’t done to her figure. “It’s too busy and the contraptions to the collar and the bounce on the hips is very unflattering. The entire outfit is unclear, unclean and a mish mash of too many things.”
Fashion designer Rajat Tangri says, “I think Mallika chose the outfit keeping in mind the film’s premiere — the dress is edgy and a couture piece and fits the bill of the adventure drama perfectly. The dress would look fabulous in photo shoots, but it’s clearly not meant for red carpet events.”
Designer Surily Goel gives it a thumbs down too: “It’s a pretty dress, and black suits Mallika, but it would have probably looked better as a plain see-through number.”
The internet too is flooded with comments, mostly negative, on her choice of the see-through outfit. Meanwhile, as for the mix-up with the other actress, a source close to Sherawat defends saying that such mistakes are commmon because the photographers there have to keep a tab of several celebrities across the world.
