Christine O'Donnell- Maybe She's Right About......Well, You Know....

Much has already been written about Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell's Republican Senate primary win in Delaware over establishment candidate Representative Mike Castle, a moderate on most issues. And the analysis seems to be clear- there is no middle ground left in the Republican Party for any "middle of the road" approaches to governance or reaching out across the aisle for voices of moderation.

I knew very little about Christine O'Donnell until yesterday, other than she is a protege of the famous half term former Governor of Alaska, the one and only Sarah Palin. And until it was brought up on the Rachel Maddow Show last night, I didn't know just how strong Ms. O'Donnell's religious convictions were- she is a Christian fundamentalist, and it's her right to worship as she pleases....this is America, where we are all equal before God, unless we are gay, lesbian, or face Mecca when we pray.

Christine O'Donnell believes in total abstinence before marriage....no sex please. OK, if that's her belief, so be it. But she takes it one step further; there should be no sex....well, you know.....with yourself. To be upfront, I already used the obligatory Seinfeld reference on Sue's blog. You know; the "Master of My Domain" stuff. I can't let that opportunity for a wisecrack get by.

But then I was reminded of another voice from the past when "the issue" was talked about - in a manner of speaking. Enter the famed gossip columnist and rock critic for L'Osservatore Romano- and later The Vatican Enquirer, the legendary Father Guido Sarducci.

Father Guido has some pretty upfront views about the meaning of life, the nature of sin, what is waiting for us in "the afterlife", and what God will do when we finally meet Him. And it all comes down to this....life is a job.

How does Senator Mellencamp Sound? - CBS News

When I first heard the news of a "Draft Mellencamp" movement regarding the soon to be open United States Senate seat held by Democrat Evan Bayh, I thought it was a mere trial balloon being floated by some who find the idea appealing. But then I thought about it for awhile...can there be a candidate anywhere in America who cares more about the working poor, displaced, and dispossessed? A guy who would and could run on his own agenda and gain grass roots support from Independents in a nominally conservative state in the American Heartland? A maverick who is more "mavericky" than certain self proclaimed mavericks?

And to those who are going to yell "just shut up and sing"....the usual right wing gasbags....its too late for that- the genie as long escaped the bottle. Performers and media types have been running and winning (or being appointed to) political office for decades now- think Shirley Temple, George Murphy, Clint Eastwood, Fred Thompson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and yes, Sarah Palin are among that list.

But how can I forget a man named Reagan? And those are just the Republicans who were once made a living on film and/or television screens.

So why not John Mellencamp for US Senate?

Heck, had he known about this twenty-five years ago he might have kept the aborted stage name of John Cougar...it was easier to remember, and would have made for better bumper stickers.

Coburn- Just Say "No" To American Veterans and Their Families

Here are some of the grim facts;

2,200 veterans die each year because they lack health insurance.

One in four veterans is homeless.

As many as 250,000 veterans will not have a roof over their heads at some time during the next calendar year.


There is an omnibus bill in the Senate that will provide aid to some of these veterans, and their families and their caregivers. One man in the United States Senate is holding the bill up. He is being opposed by every American veteran's advocacy group. And this man is a medical school graduate, and still practices family medicine.

His name is Senator Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican nicknamed "Dr. No".
