Iran offers modest new haircut guidelines for men | General Headlines | Comcast.net

A couple of days ago we told you the story of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the 42 year old mother who was first lashed 99 times and then sentenced to death by stoning in the Islamic Republic of Iran for her alleged adultery. I suppose in an attempt to show they are not totally barbaric misogynists and can be equally oppressive (to a point) with its male citizens, Iran's Ministry of Culture may be releasing a list of proposed culturally appropriate haircuts for men. And male attire may soon be cracked down upon in the future as well.

These proposed changes were introduced by an independent group that runs the "Veil and Modesty Festival".

You can see some of the more popular approved styles.....the MONKEES inspired Mike Nesmith, the retro-countryish Conway Twitty, and my favorite, The Bernardo, once used by the original Broadway cast of WESTSIDE STORY.

Sideburn lengths can be Army/Air Force styled mid-ear, or more liberal....for Iran..."The Riverboat Gambler".

What....no Mullets?

Iranian Woman Sentenced to Death By Stoning

On the morning following a day celebrating our freedoms in this wonderful country I watched one of the more disturbing and horrific stories regarding religious dictatorship in Iran on CNN. This is indeed a story that belongs in the 12th century.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian mother of two, was convicted of adultery in 2006. She confessed her adultery while being given 99 lashes. She later recanted her confession, obtained under torture. Her conviction was not based on evidence, but on the determination of three of the five judges hearing her case.

Iran's Supreme Court upheld her conviction three years ago, and the stoning can take place at any time. Amnesty International has said the stoning will probably not be open to the public, as to deflect the condemnation of the international community. From the beginning of the year until June 6 there have been 126 executions in Iran , according to Amnesty International.

Here's the complete story from CNN.com.
